A Week of Highs and Lows

This past week has been one of highs and lows. Early in the week, I found out that a girl from my old Campfire Girls group that I'd grown up with had passed away. B had been diagnosed with leukemia a couple of years ago and had defied the odds to make it through treatment and into remission. Her treatment process was grueling and included a bone marrow transplant, and as a result, her recovery hadn't been easy, particularly after she developed graft-vs.-host disease. Still, by all accounts, she was holding her own and continued to amaze people with her positive attitude. Unfortunately, over the holidays, she developed pneumonia and was not able to fight anymore.

B's death was and is very upsetting, though it has been years since I've seen her. A mutual friend had kept me apprised of her progress throughout her illness and I really believed she was going to make it. By all accounts, B had grown to be a lovely, talented person, beloved by her husband, family, and friends. She deserved a long life and it's hard to accept that the world has lost her.

I've also been worried about my sister, who has been dealing with some health issues of her own. She had another round of tests this week for the problems she has been dealing with, and I'm really hoping that the tests come back next week with good results. In the meantime, we're left waiting, which is hard.

Things aren't all bad though. After several days of radio silence (or, I should say, email silence), I found out last night that a friend of mine had given birth to her first child, a baby girl. L, if you're reading this, Violet is adorable and I can't wait to hear all about her. Take care of yourself first though, and get as much rest as you can!

  1. How exciting the Violet is here! It's cool that you'll both have daughters really close in age so you can compare notes.

Thanks for keeping the blog updated, it helps me harass you a little less often.
