"It's On My Face! It's On My Face!"

Boy, I can't wait until Sam feels better! There are the obvious reasons for this. First, he just looks so pathetic and miserable right now. He'll have bursts of energy where he plays a bit, usually when the Tylenol or Ibuprofen has kicked, but he also has long periods where he just sits on the couch and makes a high-pitched moaning noise. And, I'd really like him to be feeling more like himself before we have to leave him to go have the baby. For that matter, it'd be better for the baby if Sam wasn't totally sick and germy when she comes home. And getting Sam to take his medicine is getting increasingly difficult, and currently requires that both Chris and I get involved--I'll admit there is some level of manhandling involved in getting him to take his Tylenol these days.

There are a couple of less than maternal reasons why I hope this illness runs its course soon too. For one, Sam's cough means that he's finding it very difficult to sleep, which means that Chris and I aren't getting much sleep either. I'm not sure that either of us got more than four hours in last night. Normally we'd be able to cope with this, but knowing that at any time we'll have to go deal with the marathon of labor and delivery has us worried. I'm also nervous that one or both of us are going to get sick too, particularly given the fact that we're getting a bit run down from lack of sleep.

Still though, I can cope with all of this if I could just have one thing not happen again. Sam ended up in bed with us around 4am this morning (not particularly comfortable, especially with my pregnancy aches and pains, but at least he slept!). Around 6:30, he sneezed badly, then exclaimed "It's on my face! It's on my face!". Next thing I knew, a moist snotty hand was being wiped down my arm. What a lovely thing to wake up to. I AM glad that he's not one of those kids who walks around with goo trailing out of his nose, but he's so fussy about getting it off right away. Doesn't matter what is going on, if his nose runs, everything must stop so that the nose can be wiped.

Oh boy... well, here's hoping that today is the day the fever breaks and he starts feeling better. In the meantime, this is pretty much a house full of cranky zombies.

  1. Ugh... nice one! Seems every kid I know has the same thing right now.... hope this is the LAST day of it!

  2. I too hope this is the last day of Sam's fever and cough. Sometimes when we have nights like that Pete and I take shifts -- each handling the kid for half the night and letting the other get in some quality sleep time. Might not work if Sam's really cranky, though.

  3. Well, at least you're related to Sam. I've had many an unrelated snotty little hand wiped on me over the years. The kids in my class are remarkably healthy right now - everyone is here and acting mighty perky.
